Nandan is a genetics researcher at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He recently graduated from the postbaccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University, and he plans to attend medical school next year. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, he worked in investment banking for 2 years. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he studied Finance and Statistics.
Nandan’s interest in service work was sparked by his experiences visiting India as a child, where his observations of extreme poverty left a lasting impression on him. As a college student, he helped run the student chapter of the international nonprofit Humanity First, engaging in local and international service projects. Since graduating, he has continued to be heavily involved in nonprofit work, from working with the nonprofit Rayse Academy to help deliver digital education tools to girls in India to volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician in New York City.
“Modern technological advancements have dramatically expanded information accessibility and have reshaped capabilities in seemingly every sector except the nonprofit space. My goal for Conserve is to modernize how the average donor gives – to integrate giving into everyday life in the same way as shopping, banking, or investing.
I also hope to change the common perception about giving – to transform charitable donations from a point of contention and hassle to the rewarding and fulfilling joy it is meant to be. By demystifying charity research, by setting an impact-centered standard for due diligence, and by bringing comprehensive donation capabilities to users’ fingertips, I hope to turn charitable giving into something everybody can get behind.”
